Our Childcare Team is looking to employ a Corporate Apprentice (Level 2) Playworker based at Ely and Caerau Children’s Centre, Michaelston Road, Ely CF5 4SX, to contribute to our Service helping us to deliver childcare to babies and young children to support families who live in the Ely and Caerau wards; providing Cardiff Council’s only full-time childcare facility and service.

About the job

In this Corporate Apprentice (Level 2) role you will learn to safely and professionally care for babies and children from the age of 6 weeks to 5 years. You will learn how to support their development through play and stimulating, engaging and culturally appropriate experiences. You will develop an understanding of the health, safety, and safeguarding protocols of working in a childcare setting. You will develop teamwork skills, organisational skills and planning skills.

To support your development, you will undertake a Welsh Government Apprenticeship Framework Qualification in Children’s Care Play, Learning and Development Level 2 in the role and will receive on the job training and supervision to help you deliver an efficient and effective service in a positive and customer focussed manner. You will also be supported by your manager and a named mentor who will encourage you to develop a range of transferrable skills to support your career progression.

You will be expected to work a variety of 7.5 hour shifts between the hours of 7:30am and 6pm

As a Corporate Apprentice, you will gain valuable experience working for Cardiff - the largest Council in Wales. Although we cannot guarantee that you will go on to secure a further role at the end of the initial contract, you will be supported and encouraged to take advantage of the many opportunities available within our organisation to help progress your career.

To be eligible to apply for this role, you must live in Cardiff and have not already gained the apprenticeship qualification (or NVQ equivalent) offered in this role at the same Level or higher.
