About The Service

Cardiff benefits from being the capital city of Wales, offering social workers the opportunity to work with a highly diverse population with a variety of care and support needs.  As the largest local authority in Wales we support nearly 5000 individuals to live well, offering them a person-centred support structure to ensure they can meet their own needs and outcomes.

 

Our Mental Health and Specialist Support Services support a range of individuals including people experiencing mental health difficulties, drug and alcohol misuse issues and homelessness.  The teams work in collaboration with a number of partners including CAVUHB and third sector organisations to provide services to individuals and families to help them negotiate the challenges they face and provide ongoing support where needed.

  • The Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) Team

About the job

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Cardiff’s Adult Services Social Work Team.

Wales’s vibrant capital city offers you the opportunity to work within the largest and most diverse community in Wales.  Our Adult Services teams support over 5000 individuals and offer a wide range of professional opportunities for both newly qualified and experienced Social Workers.

You will join a team that specialises in supporting young people living in homelessness accommodation in the city. You will be part of the Specialist Support Team which is committed to strengths based, preventative social work, supporting people to live fulfilled lives and to remain as independent as possible.

As a Cardiff Social Worker, you will have access to a comprehensive range of resources and support to continue your professional development and to help you become the best Social Worker you can be.

This is a new post, and you will be located with the Young Persons Homelessness Multi-Disciplinary Team (YP MDT) as part of the Adult Services Specialist Support Team. The YP MDT Team works collaboratively with a number of partner agencies in the city both statutory and third sector and works with young people with complex needs who are in homelessness accommodation.

You will undertake assessments with young people who have complex needs who are experiencing homelessness and living in homelessness provision in the city and provide advice and guidance regarding mental health to colleagues in the YP MDT. The post will be managed by the Team Manager for Specialist Support Services. The Specialist Support Services Teams are committed to Strengths-Based Social Work Practice and working collaboratively with individuals to meet their identified outcomes and to maximise their independence and wellbeing.

The team are also committed to working in a Trauma –Enhanced way with individuals and you will be offered the opportunity to develop these skills alongside our Strengths-Based practice. What We Are Looking For From You

We are looking for qualified Social Workers looking to gain further experience within Cardiff Council.   As the successful candidate you will be able to work independently and manage your time.  You will be able to show you have excellent skills in assessment and the ability to write concise records and reports.  You will be a good team player, have excellent communication, organisation skills and IT skills. A degree in Social Work and registration with Social Care Wales are essential for this role.

 

You will be supported by an experienced social worker who will offer mentorship and guidance on your cases and will support your career development within the team. 

 

You will have a commitment to supporting young people to meet their identified outcomes, improve their well-being and maximise their independence and to working in a strength-based, preventative way, providing the support needed to enable them to achieve what matters to them.

You will have a strong and demonstrable commitment to strength-based approaches,  a dedication to working in an outcome-focussed way and a keen interest in your on-going professional development, striving for excellence.

You will be committed to working in a way that promotes equality and inclusion for all our citizens.

A degree in Social Work or equivalent Social Work qualification and registration with Social Care Wales are essential for this role.

Additional information

This role currently attracts a market supplement of £3,000 (full time equivalent), reviewed annually.  An AMHP salary allowance will be added if applicable.
